The Hickory Daily Record reported on Thursday that Cargo Transporters, Inc. was Catawba County’s 20th largest employer from statistics collected for first quarter 2013. The company was not ranked in prior years and is the only transportation or logistics company on the list. “We are thankful for the growth and success our company continues to have,” says John Pope, Chairman. “Our company employs approximately 700 people who earn tens of millions of dollars in wages annually. Much of this is spent and reinvested right here in Catawba County supporting all types of local businesses and services.”
Cargo Transporters has been in business in Claremont since 1982. The company, still locally and privately held, operates almost 500 trucks and 1500 trailers. “Many people don’t realize the size of our company because it isn’t the typical brick and mortar factory,” says Pope. “We sincerely thank all our employees and our customers which enable us to continue to grow, providing more jobs and improving the quality of life here in Catawba County.”
