Today, I am happy to share, Jerry Waddell was selected as this years recipient of ATA’s National Safety Director Award. This coveted award is presented annually, by the American Trucking Association and the ATA Safety Management Council, to a motor carrier safety professional. Jerry’s qualifications, safety program management and career achievements were deemed most outstanding throughout his selection. ATA’s National Safety Director Award is the highest honor given at a national level to a safety professional.
The official announcement was made tonight, September 26, 2013, at an Awards Banquet during the Council’s Safety & Human Resources National Conference & Exhibition in the Rose Ballroom at the John Ascuaga Nugget Hotel Resort, Sparks, Nevada. Jerry, in addition to being named 2013 National Safety Director Award Recipient, received a diamond encrusted ring, plaque and check by award sponsor Great West Casualty Co.
Jerry will also be acknowledged Sunday, October 20th at a luncheon during the American Trucking Association Management Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida. At this time, Jerry will be asked on stage and presented with a crystal trophy.
Jerry was surprised and emotional as he credited his peers and told a story of a past recipient telling his wife, Gail, that he had the right stuff some years ago to be award this honor some day. Before closing his comments, Jerry acknowledged the 600 plus employees of Cargo Transporters that have made his days meaningful. He stated that safety has always been a group effort at Cargo Transporters.
I was proud to stand with Jerry today. I am proud of Jerry as he adds this 2013 National Safety Director Award to his career accomplishments. And proud of the safety culture he has helped to cultivate at Cargo Transporters. Help me to congratulate Jerry!
