The Cargo Transporters family is proud to sponsor the Tony Pope Memorial 5K Run/Walk. Tony Pope served as president of Catawba Truck Rental before becoming president and then chairman of Cargo Transporters, Inc. Not only was he the president and chairman, but a mentor to many and an example to all through his leadership style. In the industry, he was a four-time president of the North Carolina Car and Truck Renting and Leasing Association, director and chairman of the board for the American Truck Leasing network, director and chairman of the board for the American Truck Leasing network, director of Catawba Valley Traffic Club, director for the N.C. Industries for Technical Education and director and chairman of the N. C. Trucking Association. Also, he was active in the community through such organizations as the Newton-Conover Rotary Club, Catawba Valley Chamber of Commerce, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, United Way, Jaycees, County Foresight Committee, Economic Development Commission, the YMCA, Catawba Valley Medical Center and others. In 2013, the Catawba Valley Traffic Club established the endowment of the Tony Pope Memorial Scholarship, which ensures ongoing support for scholarships to Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute truck driver training program, which provides training in Caldwell, Catawba, Gaston, Iredell and Rutherford counties. We hope that our race will become a community event with the proceeds going directly to the Tony Pope Memorial Scholarship.
Entry Fee and Form: Entry Fee is $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for students. The fee and form must be received before August 29th, 2014 to ensure a commemorative race shirt. Race day registration will be accepted, but we cannot guarantee a race tee shirt.
Registration: Bibs and race packet can be picked up on Friday, September 12th at Cargo Transporters Operations Center beginning at 3:00 p.m. through 6:00 p.m. Race day registration will be accepted until 7:30 a.m.
Directions to Course: From I-40 head South on North Oxford Street, towards the city of Claremont, at stop light take a Right onto Highway 70. At next light take Left onto Penny Road, you will go over railroad tracks. Parking will be on your Right at Progressive Furniture.
Course: The race will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. – RAIN or SHINE. This is an out and back course with several inclines. Beginning at Progressive Furniture, participants will run/walk to the right/south onto Penny Road, at stop sign take a right onto Kelly Blvd, and then bear left onto Heart Drive. Turnaround is at the end of Heart Drive. Turnaround will host the only water station.
