Cargo Transportation Leader Perry Carter Named DMC Driver of the Year

In a cargo transportation industry where professionalism, safety, and selfless service truly matter, it’s drivers like Perry Carter who set the gold standard. Cargo Transporters is proud to announce that Perry has been named the 2025 Driver of the Year by DMC Insurance—an honor that recognizes the very best in our field.

With more than 2.8 million safe miles under his belt and a career that began with Cargo Transporters in 2001, Perry isn’t just a professional driver. He’s a leader, a mentor, and a tireless advocate for the veteran community.

A Cargo Transportation Career Defined by Commitment

Perry’s path to trucking began after proudly serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1978 to 1984. That spirit of service has remained central to everything he does, both on the road and beyond.

Since joining Cargo Transporters nearly 25 years ago, Perry has consistently embodied the professionalism and safety that define our cargo transportation fleet. His impeccable driving record, paired with his calm leadership style, has made him a go-to driver within the company and an example for others across the industry.

In fact, Perry has driven more than 3 million miles over his full career—and he’s done it with integrity, purpose, and pride.

A Champion for Veterans

What truly sets Perry apart is how he uses his platform as a professional driver to give back.

In 2018, Perry was selected to drive “The Carolina,” Cargo’s Ride of Pride tractor—a military-themed Freightliner dedicated to honoring veterans. But for Perry, that was just the beginning. Every weekend from spring to fall, you’ll find him volunteering at veteran-focused events across the Southeast. From “Wreaths Across America” to “The Wall That Heals,” Perry’s presence and his truck—now “The Commander,” his second Ride of Pride tractor awarded in 2023—help raise awareness and support for causes like Purple Heart Homes and American Warriors of Liberty.

His work is personal. Perry has made it his mission to be a voice for the more than 40,000 homeless veterans in the U.S., and he’s done it with humility and heart.

A Voice for Safety and the Cargo Transportation Industry

Beyond his advocacy work, Perry is also a 2024–2025 ATA America’s Road Team Captain. In this role, he shares his passion for safety with the next generation of drivers—especially young people learning how to share the road with large trucks.

Whether speaking in schools or at public events, Perry approaches these opportunities the same way he does everything else: with purpose and sincerity. His goal is always clear—keep people safe and elevate the role of the professional driver.

“Perry Carter represents the very best of what it means to serve—with distinction on the road and in his community. As a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran, Perry has transformed his role as a professional driver into a personal mission of service, tirelessly advocating for homeless veterans through his work with the Ride of Pride program. His passion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to others embody the heart of this industry. Perry is more than a driver—he is a servant leader, and we are deeply honored to have him on our team.” — Jerry Sigmon Jr., Chief Operating Officer, Cargo Transporters
