At Cargo Transporters, we believe one of the best ways to build the future of the trucking industry is by investing in the next generation today.
Recently, our Claremont, North Carolina campus had the opportunity to host students from a local high school’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) program for an immersive, behind-the-scenes experience focused on careers in trucking and logistics.
The goal of the visit was simple: give students a real-world look at the opportunities available within the transportation industry and help them better understand the many career paths that keep freight moving across the country.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
The day began with an introduction to Cargo Transporters and an overview of the trucking industry as a whole. Students learned about the importance of transportation in the supply chain, the process of earning a CDL-A license, and the variety of opportunities available within the industry — both behind the wheel and beyond it.
From there, students toured several departments throughout our operation, including:
- Dispatch & Operations
- Safety
- Recruiting
- Fleet Leadership
This gave them a firsthand look at the teamwork and coordination required to support drivers and deliver freight safely and efficiently every day.
Hands-On Experience
One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity for students to experience our driving simulator. While rotating through the simulator, students also had the chance to speak directly with recruiters, fleet leaders, safety personnel, and operations staff to learn more about the day-to-day realities of the industry.
Students also participated in a hands-on truck walkaround, where they learned more about the equipment drivers use every day, including safety features, cab technology, and pre-trip inspection basics.
The tour continued with a guided grounds tour of our Claremont campus, showcasing:
- Maintenance facilities
- Body and paint shop
- Truck wash areas
- Fueling island
- Equipment parking and operations areas
Investing in the Future of Trucking
The visit concluded with an open Q&A session, allowing students to reflect on what they learned and ask questions about careers, training, and opportunities within the industry.
“Experiences like this don’t take a lot to organize, but they can have a lasting impact,” said Shawn Brown, VP of Safety at Cargo Transporters. “When we open our doors and show students what this industry really looks like, we help break down misconceptions and create real interest in trucking careers. It’s one of the best ways we can invest in the future of our industry.”
At Cargo Transporters, we are proud to support programs that introduce students to meaningful career opportunities and help strengthen the future of transportation.
We appreciate the students and instructors who visited our campus and look forward to continuing to support career exploration opportunities within our local communities.
